Unity

This poster is from the website called "GURAFIKU". Shigeo Fukuda "Human Rights"
I think this poster is a good example of unity. There are several points that I can see "unity" in this poster. The men are walking to the same direction, (As you can see one man is simply divided in three in different colors). As a whole, there are invisible vertical lines between the man. I am not sure what it says in a tag but these are also lined vertical. The colorwise, very basic. Black background and red, white and blue. The picture stands out very well in a dark color. Now something clicked for me. Don't the colors represent the flag of France? So now I checked the meaning of the tag, and it is "human rights" in French. Duh!
I think this is successful poster to grab the viewers attention by using strategy of unity.

  1. This images uses a strange image and an important message to be memorable to the viewer. If the man was simply striped three different colors I don't think the image would be nearly as engaging as him being tri-sected.

  2. This is kind of cool. I like the divided images because they are different too. The cutout parts are all different showing that many are united as one. The unity is first seen in the fact they are all there doing the same thing. This repetition is a strong message to the viewer. The colors are what you say, French and they say they're going to lead the way in this march of truth. I do wish that the flags were a little more interactive with the image because they feel like a leftover. Their proximity doesn't fuse with the image. The shapes and colors are very important here. Red signals to be passionate about human rights. The white is to be pure of heart in the matter and the blue means to be true to the cause. These colors are understood by all viewers in France and in America at least. The use of a male symbol is to show strength, which is also symbolized by the clinched fists. There is a pattern/grid in use here to help unify the picture. This is an interesting picture.

  3. I agree, the repetition, both of the figure and its movement, really unifies the picture. The background does a good job of drawing the viewer's attention to the slogan as well as to the figure. Very interesting image!

  4. The repetition of movement between the separate human figures really makes this image interesting and a good example of unity. The contrast with the background really keeps you focused on the human and make the image really stand out with the negative space between the human figures. Very interesting image overall.
